January...The Bane of my Existance

January....a time for reflection......a time to put your best foot forward...a time to put your priorities in order...who came up with this?
I always start out the new year with my little notebook and grand ideas of all the things I will accomplish in the new year. I start off excited about the prospect of finally fitting into some "skinny" jeans (translation...less "chubby" jeans) and becoming more proficient in all areas where I find myself lacking. Loose weight..check...be a better mother...got it down...ponder the scriptures...check, check...be more charitable...noted...keep a meticulous house...etc, etc, etc. By the time I am finished writing said list, I feel so overwhelmed I end up sitting down in the filth and squalor of my home and eating a slab of chocolate cake that I initially made for the neighbor who just gave birth. Will the madness ever end? Why can't I just give in to the part of me that says "Hey I like you just the way you are...weakness is a good thing...there is no need to improve oneself...list? what list???" Oh, if only I didn't want to be skinny, smart and successful. If only I didn't want to raise happy and productive children. Pipe dreams, that's all the list is....that's all the list will EVER be.

I totally relate to making the list and then sitting down in the filth and eating cake. I always say to myself that this is the last time the house will look like this and I will eat healthy as soon as all the cake is gone. The house isn't perfect yet, and I think I have some cookies in the freezer. All I can say is enjoy the cake.

Glad to see you are back! I hope you had a ton of fun on your vacation. Thanks for the comments on my blog! crazy hair huh? never did I think it would be curly!

When my mom's hair came in it too was curly. It has since relaxed some but it was fun to see all these curls she never had (unless paid for). But I definately think you should keep it that length, it looks super cute!

I agree with the list thing. I am totally against New Year's Resolutions. Just keep being the good person that you are...I just read a New Era article that encouraged us to be slow and steady and not so overzealous with our ambitions. You got the right idea, chocolate cake and all.

mandee you are HILLARIOUS. i am sitting here cracking up over the slab of cake thing. i feel your pain. i still haven't made those peanut butter bars. for me the transition from 1-2 kids was really hard when it came to the housework part. now i am satisfied with moderate clutter and, who knew, my kitchen table sometimes goes a few days without getting wiped. as long as i keep up on dishes and wash jeans or garments when we run out, it's all good. i'm not saying i wouldn't like to be better, but that may have to wait. you are funny!

You know, I really think that new year resolutions should happen in the SPRING when more of us can get outside and be active in the sun. Oh well, maybe it's because they think starting in January will somehow get us ready for swimsuit/shorts season. hmmm

You know I never thought of it in thosse terms, of course it is to get us in shape for the dreaded swimsuit season. I am getting sick just thinking about it. I am glad I have two fair skinned children who can't lounge by the pool, means less time in a swimsuit for me!!
